PLASTIC
In 2011 we were one of the very first companies in Bali that reviewed plastic use and reduced its use in every aspect of our operations.
Plastic use was removed in farming, processing and retail. It made our products more expensive but was an important pillar in our environmental commitment.
Ten years on, we had another plastic review and were surprised to discover that there had been a revolution in the way plastic could be used and recycled. These improvements would allow us to better serve the environment and our customers.
Finding a way to further reduce our plastic footprint by 45% has been an exciting development.
To do this we are going to move to recyclable plastic pouches as much as possible. We will take full responsibility for returns of this recycled packaging and plan to offer free products with the return of them. We want to set an example of a company that takes full and direct responsibility for its packaging.
Using recyclable plastic and taking responsibility for it is a core priority for us. From 2023 we will roll into this new system across our whole operation.
We know that there are extremely poor plastic pouch choices out there, particularly those packets with extra film layers. Ironically those plastic packages with brown paper or aluminum films commonly used to imply environmental credentials are some of the worst choices as they currently cannot be recycled.
Our pouches will be simple, recyclable plastic with an environmental footprint significantly lower than our current glass system.
They will be
- 3.1X LESS plastic used than our current glass jar (plastic lid) system.
- 100% recyclable. Return them to us washed and dry and we take responsibility.
- 17.5X LESS environmental damage in manufacturing process.
- 5.2X LESS greenhouse gas emissions in production.
- 34X LESS transport environmental footprint.
- 11.6X LESS storage environmental footprint.
- 3.6X LESS fossil fuel usage.
- 96% LESS waste landfill.
